One more night of over bite.

Tomorrow is the big day.  I have to be at the hospital at 0630.  Ry and I came down to Saskatoon today.  Did some shopping and ate a lot.  I kept saying that this is my last meal...Ry didn't like that so I had to change it to my last meal for a long time.  I think I have everything I am going to need for my time in the hospital...comfy PJ's, slippers, ice packs, zip and squeeze bags, Ry's laptop and ipod.
I am feeling pretty good at this point.  I am feeling more excited than nervous.  I am so happy that my Mom and Ry are going to be here for me during this time.  My papa is busy trying to harvest....rain stay away.
I am off.  We took some before pics today that I will post as soon as I am able.
As other orthognathic bloggers have said...see you on the other side.

This makes me giggle.

You laugh because I'm different...I laugh cause I just farted!

Five more things about me...

  1. I enjoy the smell of gasoline...don't get me wrong you won't find me behind the local fill up station garbage bin with a brown paper bag...but I am not one to pass up a sniff.
  2. I love funny things and I love to laugh.

  3. I think my parents are fabulous and I am proud to be their daughter.

  4. My big toe nails are weird...back in the day I was a down hill ski racer and every season my big toe nails would turn black and blue and eventually fall off. This trauma left them a little wacky.

  5. I tend to hunch. However, I am working on improving my posture so I don't end up looking like a dainty Quasimodo.

Yesterday I had my last two pre-op appointments. The first was a Facebow fitting appointment. It was pretty quick and painless. It was at a hospital that I used to work at so I popped in and had a quick visit with some co-workers and then I was off to be measured with a piece of equipment that looked similair to the jawbreaker in the movie Saw. The resident and tech took some impressions and we chatted about an anesthetist who used to intubate himself and have OR staff find him in various places, Britney Spears unfortunate display at the VMA's, Miss Teen S. Carolina's personal thoughts and of course, my oral surgeon...apparently he is a Kiss fan. The second appointment was for 2 x-rays.

Today I spent most of the day tackling my "Orthognathic Surgery necessities" lists:

  • baby toothbrushes

  • vaseline and various lip stuff

  • hydrogen peroxide

  • q-tips

  • arnica gel

  • dry erase board

  • thermometer
  • Vitamin C and Zinc (which I have been taking for a few weeks)

  • Zip & squeeze bags

  • cool jaw wrap

  • 2 cold/heat pads

  • button up PJ's

  • decongestant nasal spray

Tomorrow Ry comes home from Vancouver. I am excited, it has only been 2 weeks but I miss him like crazy. Our little pug finnie will be so excited to see her Papa.

Smokey says "Only you can prevent forest fires" and why the hell am I in North Van

I thought I would start off with 5 things about me...I have seen this on other blogs except they did 100 things...come on I don't even know 100 things about me.

  1. I tend to abuse the ... which I just found out thanks to Wikipedia...Ellipsis refers to the row of three full stops (... or . . . ) or asterisks (***) indicating an intentional omission. This punctuation mark is also called a suspension point, points of ellipsis, periods of ellipsis, or colloquially, dot-dot-dot. An ellipsis is sometimes used to indicate a pause in speech, an unfinished thought or, at the end of a sentence, a trailing off into silence. I learn something new every day.

  2. I am a closet Gilmore Girls fan and am quite sad that I won't be spending Tuesday nights with Lorelai and Rory. On this note I am also a closet Big Brother Fan....go Daniele.

  3. I love to eat chocolate ice cream with milk in it.

  4. My favorite person is my fiance Ryan.

  5. I had a birth mark near my right boob, when i was having my tonsils out at the age of 9 the medical staff decided to remove it thinking that when my tata's grew it would grow with them....let's just say they could have left it.

On to important goings on. My Fiance is attending school in Vancouver to be a prosthetist/orthotist. It is a four year program, 2 year didactic and 2 year internship. He is coming back to Saskatchewan for the internship portion so we decided to tough out the 2 years didactic and live apart....i highly do not recommend this, it blows. Ry is living with his aunt in North Vancouver in a beautiful home...thank you auntie Reenie. Yesterday Ry woke up, walked out to the living room, looked out the window to see police people looking up into a tree in the front yard. Curiosity got the best of this little lad, as he followed the gaze of the police people his eyes landed on a bear. Yup, a bear. A big black bear. I hoped to have a picture of this city dwelling bear but I don't as of yet. I do have a video of the bear falling tranquilized from the tree which is at a sideways angle so it looks like the bear is being sucked into a large vacuum.

On an orthognathic note...only 8 days to go. I have a bit of a cold so i am downing the Vit C and Zinc in hopes to stomp this thing out prior to surgery. Nothing worse then waiting a zillion years for a surgery and getting cancelled due to a stinkin little cold. I am working 2 days (gotta love shift work) this week and then I am off for almost 4 weeks. I am not sure if this will be long enough but my fabulous boss offered more time if I need it. Ry is coming home this Friday to be with me for the week...see how could he not be my favorite person. Thanks love.

Here are some pics of my beautiful family.

To come...5 more lame things about me, hopefully a bear in a tree in Noth Van pic and some more on my upcoming surgery.

I'm a blogger.

I love reading blogs...getting a glimpse into someones personal goings-on, doesn't get any better that that. I thought that since I enjoy reading them that I may enjoy having a little gem of my own. How do you go upon starting one of these things...just dive right in i guess.

The focus for the next little while will be....dun dun daa......jaw surgery. I am having jaw surgery on the 18th of September. Only a mere 10 days away. For those that are keen on orthognathic jargon, I am having a Lefort I for excess guminess and Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy for mandibular advancement...I think. I am a little nervous and a little more excited to be finally having this done. I have been in braces for 3.5 years and on a surgical wait list for over 2 years. It is about time!!
I have been reading up and am determined to be as ready as possible for this undertaking. I am making lists of everything that I may need in the post-op weeks. I will be "wired" shut....not really with wires but with thick elastics but I wasn't sure if i could say elasticted, elasticized maybe...not sure. Anyway, "wired" shut for an estimated 2 weeks. Yuk! But in the end this will all be worth it and I will be able to smile with a huge teethy smile all of the time.

Bloggin is fun! To come...a little more about me and continued rants on my anal preparedness as I head into surgery.
